Sussex School Games: Festival of Sport

The Sussex School Games reflects the spirit of the Olympics on a county level offering school children the fantastic opportunity to take part in an inspiring event that brings sport, the arts and culture together in celebration of excellence.  Using the unique power and energy of London 2012, we can lead young people into the benefits of competitive sport.

The 2012 Sussex School Games took place at K2, Crawley on Tuesday 3 July 2012.

From 2013 the Sussex School Games will become a biannual event, with a winter and a summer games. The first winter Sussex School Games will take place at Lancing College on 6 March 2013, with the 2013 summer games returning to K2 Crawley on 10 July 2013.

The four levels of the School Games pathway give the chance for young people to reach success at a county and national level.  These are:

Level 1 – Intra-school competition and participation
Level 2 – Inter-school competition
Level 3 - County competition – Sussex School Games: Festival of Sport
Level 4 – Elite National School Games

The Level 3 event for the county combines East Sussex, West Sussex, and Brighton & Hove and is based on Active Sussex’s geographical area. It is organised by a Local Organising Committee (LOC) led by three co-chair Head teachers representing the schools from the area’s three councils. Active Sussex’s role is as background coordinator, National Governing Body (NGB) link and vice-chair. Local clubs and groups will also contribute to a successful and exciting event – if you would like to be involved please get in touch or check our volunteering latest opportunities board.
