Who we are

Active Sussex is one of 49 County Sports Partnerships in England, and is largely funded by the Government to coordinate and facilitate the delivery of sport and physical activity initiatives in the City of Brighton & Hove and across East and West Sussex.
Our purpose is to help drive improved access to, and an increased participation in, sport and physical activity in Sussex. We aim to bring together all key partners involved in the sector at a local level, and to strategically advocate for sustained investment in sport at local and national levels.
Active Sussex is committed to supporting a high quality sporting infrastructure through which activity can be delivered; its core team is contracted by Sport England to primarily support Governing Bodies of Sport and Local Authorities linking them to other key community sport and physical activity providers in the public and private sector (e.g. Education, Health, Leisure Trusts and Business amongst others).
We provide a number of supporting services to our partners and are pivotal in contributing to the Government’s target of increasing the number of people participating in sport and physical activity, as well as supporting the local implementation of the national 2012 Legacy Plan, ‘People, Places, Play’. In this regard, Active Sussex has successfully secured national investment to coordinate the delivery of the School Games, Sportivate and Sport Makers elements of the legacy plan in Sussex.
The core areas of work include: providing strategic guidance and direction using available sports participation data, offering facilities and funding advice relating to Sport England investment programmes, working with community sports clubs and National Governing Bodies of Sport, coordinating volunteering programmes, helping to develop school-club links, encouraging disability sports development through NGBs, and organising training and coach development courses.
Throughout the year, Active Sussex also organises a series of county level events and conferences, produces key network communications and has a growing presence on social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter.
We wish to enthuse and encourage our communities to participate more and take advantage of additional opportunities made available as a result of business investment in the wake of London 2012 and, through our partners, we plan to ensure a lasting sporting legacy that truly benefits the communities of Sussex.
