Jack Waller, Catsfield

Jack Waller

Water Polo

"You have got to aim high – ever since we were told we had the Olympics in London, getting there has been an aim for me"

How did you get started?

Jack took to the pool at the age of 11, inspired by water polo role model Radu Cosmin. Driven by a desire to learn, he has made great strides since his senior international debut in 2007. Now 23, Waller, who comes from Catsfield near Battle, spent last winter playing professionally in Barcelona.

He told the Argus: "Ever since we were told we had the Olympics in London getting there has always been an aim for me. You have got to aim high and I've been very lucky with the support of my family and team mates to be where I am."

Greatest achievements

Gold at the High Tatras Tournament in 2008 and at the Mithat Hantel Memorial Tournament in 2009.

Prospects for 2012

Jack will play at Centre Forward – possibly the most influential position in water polo – for the first GB men's team to take part in the Olympics since 1956. He has been selected to start against Romania in the Group B preliminary round on 29 July at 6:20pm. TeamGB's other group matches are against Serbia (31 July), USA (2 August), favourites Hungary (4 August) and Montenegro (6 August).
