Sport England's ringfenced £25m Active Colleges fund opens on 1 October. Pre-application workshops will take place in London on 24 September to help those interested in applying to get a fuller understanding of the criteria and procedure.
Colleges are key in reducing the risk of a drop-off in sports participation, especially at 16 and 18. In recognition of this key role, Sport England has developed Active Colleges - a £25 million investment ring-fenced to benefit students in further education.
On Monday 1st October 2012, the following two Active Colleges funding rounds will open:
1. College Sport Makers – Round 2 – funding for 30-40 full time sports development professionals working in the FE sector. Their role will be to link colleges with community sport opportunities in order to widen the offer for students.
2. Further Education Activation Fund – Round 1 – funding for revenue projects that will increase regular sports participation of students in FE Colleges.
To enable colleges to find out more about Active Colleges and how to apply for funding, Sport England will be holding a series of pre-application workshops. The workshops will provide further detail about the College Sport Maker role and the types of project that will be eligible for Further Education Activation funding. The workshops will also look at what makes a good application and the timescales and processes for applying for funding.
